Aperture 3 Faces & Screen Saver Issue Update

The day after I thought I had solved my issue with Aperture 3 and it not showing up as a Screen Saver or Desktop option, it happened again! Frustrated I rebuilt the thumbs and generated the previews as done previously, but nup, nadda, still stuffed. Then it dawned on me that I had also turned Faces back on. Turn it off and Aperture appears again as an option. Rather annoying and hopefully something that will be addressed because I love the Faces feature but I like my Screen Saver using my Aperture Library more.

Aperture 3 Upgrade Issue

Being pretty excited about the latest release of Aperture, I downloaded and installed the trail version and bought the upgrade key as soon as I could. Shortly after upgrading my Aperture 2 Library I discovered that the Screen Saver and Desktop System Preferences no longer displayed Aperture Library to select from. WTF!

Anyway after much searching I figured that should rebuild the thumbnails and generate previews.

Not sure which one did the trick but most probably a worthwhile exercise to do both after upgrading.

After my DELL dramas I bit the bullet and bought a 30” Apple Cinema Display. Love the screen real-estate, don’t love the expense! With the government Small business 50% deduction I couldn’t help myself. I did hesitate several times though, deciding whether to get the ACD or maybe push my luck a bit further with Andrea and get a 5D. I think it could be quite some time before get to upgrade my camera body.

Heliwest Joyride

I managed to go a free joy flight over Perth with Heliwest with the door off. Once I overcame the shock of flying with door off I managed to get a couple of decent shots.

I had a small camera malfunction over Northbridge, not sure what went wrong. My mind was in overload and I didn’t quote get the setting back to what they should have been when we came around and down the river.

Anyway learnt a few things and looking forward to the next opportunity.

Strobist Gear Update

OK… On my way with getting some gear together… now just have to start taking some pictures and working out how to use it properly.

Gear List so Far

1 x SB-26 and 1 x SB-28 (both off Ebay and in GREAT condition. The SB-28 was suppose to be a SB-26 but when it I found that the seller had sent a SB-28. The seller didn’t have a SB-26. Not too happy about that, lucky the SB-28 was in really good condition. I ended up getting the seller to give me a $25 US refund. Sweet!)

Cactus Triggers v4 from Gadget Infinity. One word “Cheap“. Cheap look. Cheap buy, Cheap Build quality. Yep they work and have allowed me to start down the strobist path, but I am already looking at replacing them with possibly CyberSyncs. Can’t guarantee that they will fire all the time, in the short time that I have had them I have experienced several miss-fires. I bought 1 transmitter and 3 receivers.

Aptly “Cactus” is an Australian colloquialism for being stuffed.

Must Get some Strobist gear….

Been thinking about it for ages. Now I am finally taking some serious steps towards acquiring some hardware. Was about to spend a large amount of cash on a 580EX, but have thought better of it. For the same money I should be able to get a couple of old Nikon flashes off ebay (sb-24 or sb-26), cheap triggers and some umbrellas, stands etc…

I’m currently bidding on a couple of flashes. Once I win one of these I will order a cheap $80 triggers, see how they go. Would love to get Pocket Wizards, but think I’ll have a better chance of getting them (ie. convincing the wife) if I can produce some good shots first and then would be able to justify the expense. Also found some umbrellas, stands from a local distibutor will order these once I have a flash.
